I have 30 years of experience teaching Modern Studies at a large, academically successful secondary school in Edinburgh, guiding thousands of students through their National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher qualifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book/make payment to you for sessions?

A first taster session is offered for only £10. Subsequent sessions vary in cost depending upon the level booked. Bookings are made directly via this website (in the "Make a Booking" section) and in your confirmation email you will be provided with details as to how to make payment.

Do you offer in-person tutoring?

No, I deliberately offer online sessions only, undertaken via Teams (a unique meeting link is emailed once a booking has been paid for). This provides a far more convenient and flexible offering and means you can be tutored regardless of your physical location.

What equipment is necessary to make use of your sessions?

You simply need access to any mobile or desktop device with a reliable Internet connection. You will be sent an email that contains a direct link that you use to join your booked session.

How long do the sessions last?

A standard session lasts for 40 minutes however I can easily arrange bespoke session lengths (chargeable on a pro rata basis). Just get in touch with me if this is of interest.

What happens if my session is interrupted by connectivity issues?

I use a dedicated 1 Gig broadband service to deliver my lessons. However, if there is a significant technical problem during a session, I will, of course, provide the opportunity to reschedule.

Can session times be rearranged easily after booking?

Absolutely. Just get in touch with me if you need to rearrange a booked session and I'll be happy to oblige.

I want specific help with one particular aspect of my coursework - can you help?

Of course. Whether you want me to give you specific guidance/resources to assist with writing the dissertation at AH level, or you need help on one particular question area at N5, or anything in between - I can help.

Can you give me revision materials?

Yes - I have always taken great pride in presenting students with the highest quality bespoke exam-focused revision notes. I will happily grant access to my notes and resources that underpin lessons undertaken.

Are you worth the money?

Please read some of my testimonials as to the difference I can make. You aren't just buying my time, you are buying into my forensic understanding of not just the subject knowledge necessary to achieve exam success in the most efficient manner possible, but also the exam technique that allows it to be deployed effectively; it isn't good enough to just have a general level of academic knowledge in my subject area - you need to understand every aspect of SQA assessment procedures/marking in order to maximise the chances of a successful outcome. This is what I have spent decades mastering, and continue to take pride in imparting.

Why are you doing this?

I've only ever been motivated by helping students reach their potential in my subject and have always taken pride in exceeding expectations from students and parents. This tutoring service is an extension of that desire.

Do you also tutor Higher Politics?

Yes I do - as well as a passion for teaching Modern Studies, I very much enjoy delivering the Higher Politics course. These sessions are bookable from my "make a booking" page.
